Community Foundation Awards More Than Half a Million Dollars to Nonprofits Serving Brevard

Through the generosity of its donors and fundholders, the Community Foundation for Brevard is directing $544,579 in funding to 71 local nonprofit organizations through the 2026 Competitive Grants-Brevard cycle. This annual program provides nonprofits with vital funding for both programmatic and general operating support, empowering them to address critical needs in our area, ultimately enhancing quality of life for Brevard residents.

Philanthropic individuals and families who contribute to the grant cycle are helping to build a Brevard that is healthy, resilient and rich in opportunity for all. The grants support a broad range of services and initiatives that touch every corner of the community, from education and health to environmental conservation, arts and culture and more. This year’s reviewers evaluated 101 applications, underscoring the growing need for community-based resources and the nonprofits working to meet that demand.

Every year, the Foundation recruits community volunteers to score applications. Funding recommendations are based on each organization’s ability to make a meaningful impact, effectively deliver on mission and align with donor priorities. Recommended grantees receive final approval from the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

“Having served as a grant reviewer since 2016, I am continually inspired by the innovation and compassion demonstrated by Brevard’s nonprofits,” said Shirley Friedland, Community Foundation Board Member and Chair of the Grant Committee. “The grant review process offers a unique perspective on the work happening behind the scenes to support our neighbors with each application reflecting a shared commitment to building a stronger, more vibrant county.”

The Community Foundation invites interested community members to participate as grant reviewers for future Competitive Grants-Brevard cycles.

As one reviewer shared, “It was an exceptional experience to see firsthand the dedication of local nonprofits and the thoughtful process behind grantmaking. I left with a deeper appreciation for the organizations serving our community and the people working to support them.”

Those who would like to serve on a future review panel can contact the Foundation’s Philanthropy Assistant, Kerina Robison, at KerinaR@CFBrevard.org.

The 2026 grant recipients represent a diverse cross-section of organizations whose programs and services improve lives, expand opportunities and help tackle pressing issues. Through their work, thousands of Brevard residents will benefit from increased access to support, cultural enrichment and pathways toward greater well-being.
