Strengthening the nonprofit community through grantmaking and other services is critical to our mission of building a better community. The Community Foundation for Brevard helps nonprofits carry out their important work by awarding grants, forging community partnerships and educating community philanthropists and partners about the organizations that are most aligned with their charitable interests.

Types of Grants

The Community Foundation for Brevard offers an annual competitive grant opportunity to support nonprofit organizations serving Brevard. Participating in the competitive grant program is one of the best ways to introduce your organization to our community of philanthropists.
We truly appreciate your time and effort, and look forward to learning more about your organization and the work you do to help our community thrive. The next application period opens April 30, 2026. Information and guidelines are below.

The Community Foundation for Brevard uses a competitive grant process to award medical research grants from the Kenneth R. Finken and Dorothy Hallam Finken Endowment Fund and Frank R. Leslie Fund. The program supports research in Alzheimer’s, cancer, and other pervasive diseases. Information and guidelines about the annual Medical Research Grant process are outlined below.

Throughout the year, CFB authorizes grants from donor advised funds to 501(c)(3) organizations based on recommendations from fund advisors. There is no application process and these funds do not accept requests. These funds are established and advised by individual donors, and the distributions are determined by the donor for specific philanthropic purposes.
Designated funds and agency endowments created to benefit specific nonprofit organizations pay out annual distributions to designated organizations each year.

Grant cycles are announced via email and on the Community Foundation for Brevard’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages. The Community Foundation conducts two trainings (Grantmaker Briefings) countywide in advance of our Competitive Grants-Brevard cycle to assist prospective applicants in preparing their proposals.

The Foundation performs the due diligence to ensure recommended grantees are qualified, viable organizations in good standing, and then issues checks from that particular fund. The Board of Directors, comprised of community leaders, approves or ratifies all grants.
