The Community Foundation for Brevard Board of Directors bestowed its inaugural award, The Philanthropist, to Nancy and Rick Dillen at the organization’s annual arts gathering held at Seagrass Pottery in Palm Shores.

The Philanthropist award recognizes Brevard residents who have a demonstrated record of outstanding civic and community impact through exemplary leadership, financial support, and volunteerism.

“Nancy and Rick have had a transformational impact,” said Theresa Grimison. “Their wisdom, creativity, and generosity of time, talent, and treasure have been inextricably woven into the fabric of our lives and will resonate forever in future generations. They’re the ideal recipients of The Philanthropist 2024.”

The Dillens have been pillars of the Brevard community since 1971, contributing to its cultural, educational, and economic development. Nancy, a distinguished artist and educator, and Rick, a multi-faceted professional and engineer, combined their talents and generosity to uplift others for decades.

In 2015, they established the Dillen Charitable Fund and the Nancy Baur Dillen Art Teacher Scholarship Fund, helping Brevard Public School art educators enhance their skills and inspire students. Over the last nine years, their charitable impact grew as they served on several task forces and supported hundreds of effective programs and organizations across Brevard, improving the lives of individuals and families in need.

Over the last year, while Rick battled significant health challenges, the couple remained actively engaged in their philanthropic endeavors. Rick’s passing on August 5th marked the end of a life dedicated to service, but the Dillens’ compassion and altruism continue to inspire and strengthen Brevard.
