Rolling Readers Space Coast has been sharing the joy of reading with Brevard County children since 1997. They strive to develop in the children a desire to be life-long readers, by providing them with high-impact program materials, books and volunteer services.
Annually, several hundred volunteers read aloud in classrooms or work one-on-one with struggling readers, all in an effort to improve literacy skills. Over 5000 children (prekindergarten-fifth grade) in Brevard County Title I elementary schools participate.
Annually they give a brand new hardcover book as a gift as well. For some of these children, this is the first new book they can call their very own. Through the years, over 80,000 books have been placed into the hands of children.
The endowment started by co-founder Joan Borders helps sustain the work of Rolling Readers Space Coast through its annual grant distribution.
